A wealthy Vietnamese businessman has erected a monument as a tribute to the success of the Flappy Bird mobile phone game.

The monument, which is situated in Lenin Park south of Hoan Kiem Lake, depicts three pillars similar to those in the game.

“We wanted to pay tribute to one of Vietnam’s great entrepreneurial endeavours,” said Tran Nhan Tong from Mai Do Investments.

“The three pillars represent courage, truth and usability which I believe are all characteristics of the Flappy Bird game.”

The monument is said to be interactive, and allow visitors to listen to various familiar and repetitive sound clips as they navigate through the pillars and over the surrounding cactus garden.

The construction of the pillars was the subject of some controversy and speculation. The location of the monument is suggested to have somehow bypassed the strict zoning laws for Lenin Park, and the builder has allegedly tweeted that the best course of action is to pull down the monument completely.

The Flappy Bird video game is no longer available for download from either the Google Play or Apple iTunes stores, and there is no confirmation available as to whether it was ever available for Windows Mobile.
