Nine Network breakfast TV presenter Karl Stefanovic is currently in discussions with Eddie McGuire about starring and hosting his own 24 hour TV channel.
iKarl will be an additional free to air TV station and part of the Nine Network alongside the popular Gem and Go! Channels.
The idea allegedly came about during discussions between Stefanovic and Channel Nine executives where agreement was reached that his current exposure was not enough.
“The Today Show, National Nine News, A Current Affair and 60 Minutes are really not enough for someone of Karl’s enormous talents” said Geoff Hannah, an executive at Channel Nine.
“This is especially true when you need to be there at the front line for such things as the Queensland Floods, Cyclone Yasi, the Pike River Mine Disaster, and the occasional ‘Bunga Bunga’ party. Not to mention annual events such as The Logies, Carols by Candlelight and the Melbourne Cup.”
Stefanovic, a fan of the movie The Truman Show, is said to be interested in applying a similar technology to that used in the film, so that viewers can watch uninterrupted coverage of Karl as he moves from location to location.
“The only thing we still need to convince Karl of is that we may need to insert commercials occasionally” quipped Mr Hannah.
A proposed start date for the new TV channel is yet to be decided.
