Prince William and Kate to Honeymoon in Canberra

Will and Kate are "looking forward to a dip in Lake Burley Griffin"

In what can only be described as the best thing to happen to Canberra since Pearl Jam, it has been confirmed that the royal couple will honeymoon in Canberra, Australia.

Royal insider and columnist Henry DeTamble has stunned world media by making the announcement earlier today.

“I have it on good authority that the Prince is very keen to spend some time at the War Memorial, Questacon and Brand Depot,” revealed DeTamble.

“The royal family has always had a strong connection to Canberra, and their security team has placed it at the top of the list of the safest places to have a private honeymoon. With the ban on motorboats in Lake Burley Griffin, it is the perfect place for them to enjoy some water based activities without interference from the Paparazzi,” he added.

Chief Minister John Stanhope is said to be ecstatic at the news and is “looking forward to buying them a cappuccino and a croissant at Cornucopia.”

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has already extended an invitation to the royal couple for Iced Vo Vo’s and a hot cup of tea on the grounds of the Lodge.

“I have to admit, I am not sure if they would prefer Earl Grey, or English Breakfast” quipped Ms Gillard.

Further speculation abounds as to the choice of their accommodation. High on the list of likely places are The Hyatt, The Crown Plaza and the Airport International Motel at Queanbeyan.

The royal couple are expected to arrive via Canberra International Airport sometime in early June.
